Bluetooth

Searching the Bluetooth.com website, I found two new devices that have been enhanced by Bluetooth technology, which is the first set of Bluetooth smart devices released by the end of this year, the Motorola’s Bluetooth smart device called the MOTOACTV and Dayton & Nordic’s first Bluetooth smart device heart strap.

As shown on MOTOACTV.COM, the MOTOACTV is a small light device that is more than just a stylish asset to anyone’s daily exercising routine. This device allows you to track your own workout performance data on their MOTOACTV.com website, by transferring your time, distance, speed and calories burned measured by via Bluetooth, Accusense Technology, accelerometer and precision GPS. Therefore, with this device precisely measuring all the aspects of your data, not only can you see how you are doing and where you are directly on the touch screen display, but you can also analyze how you are doing after your workout sessions. This device also lets you connect to wifi and other Smartphones with Bluetooth v4.0, such as Apple’s IPhone 4S, to allow you to continue to get texts and phone calls (with their stereo Bluetooth headphones). Displayed along with MOTOACTV, is Motorola’s Wireless Sports Headphones that has a heart rate monitor built in as well. Along with this new technology, this device also has a smart music player where it develops high-performance playlists by learning what songs can motivate you, through tracking your performance level against the music.

The other device is the first production of the Bluetooth low energy heart rate built that can be connected with any Bluetooth v4.0 Smartphone or gadget, as displayed on Nordic Semiconductors website. This product is produced by Dayton, the world’s leading developer of wireless sports and fitness monitoring developer and manufacturer, in collaboration with Nordic Semiconductor ASA, who is an ultra low power RF specialist. This device will allow people to monitor their heart rate and is the thinnest wireless heart-rate belt they have produced. It is suppose to last 1.5 years based on typical 1-hour/ day usage conditions.

I choose these two devices because, it shows how Bluetooth is utilized now to enhance sports and fitness devices, to monitor individuals performance. I think this will create a new market where many athletes and individuals will purchase for the ease and comfort these devices provide to monitor and track their performance in their daily workout routines. I believe this also opens the door for Bluetooth to expand into other monitoring equipment used in other industrial fields, such as the medical field to increase the ability to monitor patients’ heart-rates, blood pressure, respiratory rate among other things.

Bluetooth

One of the biggest hits in the bluetooth industry is bluetooth keyboards and mice. These are so popular because the allow users with bluetooth enabled devices to easily connect to a mouse and keyboard. These are popular at the moment due to the recent inovations with the ipad and other tablets. People are able to take their touch screen ipad and turn it into a virtual laptop by connecting via bluetooth to their keyboard. This enables the user to create documents, emails, and all text in a simpler and much more efficient way. They dont have to worry about pressing the wrong key due to the touch screen keyboard on the device itself, instead they can type just like they normally would be able to on any personal computer. Reading about these blutooth keyboards reminded me about how the book stated that input devices are able to enhance the performance the user has within the IT field and I believe that these bluetooth keyboards define that perfectly. When I looked at different bluetooth keyboard the HiPPih IEagle Foldable bluetooth keyboard was most interesting to me. Offered as an accessory to Ipad when you purchase it online, this keyboard allows users a full size keyboard which fits in your pocket. This keyboard would perfectly suite a business professional bringing their Ipad to a presentation because its not only convienient, it offers everything a standard keyboard does.
The second piece of bluetooth technology that I looked at was in the medical field. The product is the foldable bluetooth baby scale. I thought that this product was interesting because it allows the user to easily store data about their new born child. This product developed by Soehnle Professional allows the user to send data straight from the scale to a personal computer in a way to easily track the weight of a new born child. The scale wirelessly transmits the data from the scale and sends it to a personal device to keep help track the progress of your child. This will help improve your day to day life because it will help you stay organized ans keep information of your child electronically. This improvement to technology in the medical field reminded me about when we talked about outsourcing. Hospitals these days are even able to outsource their medical field by sending things such as x-rays, and MRI's overseas and having doctors asses them in places such as India. These new baby scales could be a new way of hospitals keeping in touch with its patients without having the patient to come in but instead send the weight and such through the web. This will not only increase productivity but will make the life of both parents and doctors much more simple.

3G VS. 4G

There is a lot of debate about the 3G and 4G networks and having phones with the 4G capability but having to downgrade back to 3G network because there is not enough 4G service. So at this point with any phone service there are three things in order to get access 1. a network, 2. a device for connecting, and 3. a service plan. The sprint 4G service is available in 62 cities with the network providing adequate coverage on the coasts but it’s not in the middle of country, there are 12 states with no sprint 4G service at all. When you can’t the 4G connection its fallback is to use the sprint 3G network which is based on evolution data optimized technology. It’s available in all 50 states as for the other 3G networks there are huge holes in the upper Midwest and Sprint says that over the next two years it will fill out a national 4G network.
T-Mobile currently offers an upgrade high speed packet access 3G network and AT&T is also busy rolling out high speed packet and is testing long term evolution technology, for a planned commercial 4G rollout over the next two years. As well as Verizon launching its own long term evolution network on a trial basis with limited coverage in 38 cities and 60 airports. The company says the network will be completed nationwide in 2013. I currently have the Sprint HTC EVO 3D phone and because of where I am I can’t access the 4G network. The most frustrating thing to me is having a phone with the capability but because of the technology I can’t use my phone to its fullest capacity. I don’t believe that phones should be made with the 4G capability because of the limited access of the network. Its point less to have the technology to support a faster network connection when the network is not available. So I guess in time the network will be up in running but how fast technology is developing and I believe the next best thing will be out. - Alanna Johnson

bluetooth

I looked at the Bluetooth.com site. The two that interested me the most was, they have a new Bluetooth app for the iphone. You can track your health through out your phone. And also the hands free phone for your car.

The iphone/ipod, has apps now that you can put a Bluetooth chip in your shoe so when you are running/ walking it will send what your heart rate and how much calories you are burning from your work out. I think this is very interesting because a your don’t even no the chip is in your shoe because its so small and It can be pulled up right on your phone/mp3 player. This is new technology that is changing the whole sports market. A few years ago this would be unheard of, no one ever thought this would be possible. After reading about this I want to go out and buy one.

The other one I looked at was the car Bluetooth. Now that the laws have changed in most states prohibiting you to use your phone when you’re driving. This is a great product to use. When someone calls you or your talking to someone on the phone it comes through the car radio. The interesting part is that your phone can be in your pocket, and just because it’s in the car you can answer it thought the radio. A lot of business sales people are using them; most deals are done in the car or on a golf course. You can also answer text messages and write them back thought this Bluetooth product. Most cars have them already installed when you buy the car. But if you have an older car you can buy it at best buy or on the Bluetooth website. My mom bought a new car and it already installed. When im in the car my phone locks right in to. It’s easy to use and not hard to set up. I think this product will save life’s, because most car accident that happen because people are on the phone or texting. Over all the two products I have looked at are great ideas. I can’t wait to see what Bluetooth comes up with in the coming years.

Bluetooth

The two devices that I chose to talk about for this assignment are wireless mice and wireless speakers. Both of these products have been enhanced with Bluetooth technology to make everything easier and to not hold us back with being connected to a device by wires. I chose these two devices because I use and own both of these. I have an Apple Magic Mouse and it connects to my laptop wirelessly via Bluetooth technology. Having a mouse that uses Bluetooth technology is so helpful because the mouse isn’t connected to my laptop from wires, so I don’t have to worry about the mouse getting tangled with other wires, or just something else. Also its nice because I can use my mouse anywhere around my laptop, not just the distance that a wired mouse will allow you because it is connected to your computer. The second device that I chose to talk about is computer speakers that use Bluetooth technology. I chose to talk about the computer speakers because I also own a pair of speakers that connect to my laptop wirelessly via Bluetooth technology. The way that the computer speakers work are very similarly to the Apple Magic Mouse, it connects to my laptop using short-ranged radio waves to connect the two devices together, this is known as pairing. Once the two devices are paired up I can move the speakers anywhere in my dorm room and they will still play music. It’s nice to be able to do this if you need to, because if the speakers are plugged in to a computer then you can only move them as far as the wires allow you to move them. I would recommend to anyone to invest in a wireless mouse that uses Bluetooth technology and I would also recommend that you invest in a pair of Bluetooth speakers because they both are awesome not being connected to something from wires. T is nice to have the freedom and ability to move either of them basically wherever you please and still being able to use them.

Bluetooth Technology

The two bluetooth products I decided that were cool were the headphones and keyboard. These two products have been enhanced by bluetooth technology in several ways. Headphone wires have always been a pet peeve of mine because they always get in the way when you are doing something, especially when you work out or go running. Having headphones just sync to your iPhone or iPod wirelessly with the bluetooth technology I think is a huge convenience. It just makes headphones that much better for consumers and also people don't have to be directly connected to the device they are listening to. They could be all the way across a room and still be able to hear music or listen to a movie if they have hearing problems. The bluetooth headphones also help elderly people who have hearing problems because they can connect their headphones and listen to the tv or movies without having to blast the volume or sit very close to the tv. Bluetooth keyboards are also becoming a very convenient bluetooth technology because of the major surge in iPad's and tablets being sold. Not everyone likes to type on the touch screen so it is very helpful to have a keyboard that you can connect wirelessly to your device and use that to type. They are also used on the new tv's that have internet access on them. I think that bluetooth technology has revolutionized technology in a way that makes all devices so much more convenient and even safer to use, such as bluetooth headsets while driving.

The RFID System

The Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a generic term that is used to describe a system that transmits the identifier in the form of number that are different of an object by wireless radio waves. The RFID is grouped under the broad category of automatic identification technology. The purpose for this new technology system is to get data to be transmitted by a portable device, called a tag, which then processes according to the need of the company or business applications. The RFID provides specifics about a product tagged, that could be prices, colored, and the date of that purchase of the item. This system technology “now” has been adopted by thousands of companies because it makes the process of business easier to track items, and also makes it fast and more efficient for the company’s business process. The Radio Frequency Identification system has gained so much attention in the last years because of its ability to track moving objects or items. This is very attractive to company’s because it gives them the sense of knowing if their items of products are getting there on time and safely. In the Manufacturing aspect, the RFID has the ability in manufacturing plants, to use the tracking parts that work in processes and reduce defects, and also increases the managing of production of different versions of the process of a project. Within the Supply Chain Management the technology has been used in the close loop supply chain in different company’s process. The company has retrievers that the data is stored on the RFID, and can be read by radio waves that signal back to the tag. The RFID is the new age of tracking data, and soon will be replacing the bar code.
